The Press Office under the Ministry of Health
published Wednesday afternoon a press release on the latest
SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. On May 28, 6
provinces reported new SARS cases, of which, 1 province
reported both new diagnosed cases and new suspected cases, 1
province reported new diagnosed cases, 4 provinces reported
new suspected cases, and the remaining 25 provinces reported
no new case. By 10:00 am May 28, 26 provinces had reported SARS cases. So far, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai provinces, and Tibet Autonomous Region have not found any case. Of the provinces having reported suspected or diagnosed SARS cases, Heilongjiang and Xinjiang still reported no diagnosed case; Ningxia, Zhejiang, Fujian, Chongqing, Jiangxi and Shandong reported less than 5 diagnosed cases respectively; Anhui, Shanghai, Gansu, Jiangsu, Hubei, Liaoning and Hunan reported less than 10 diagnosed cases respectively. Hunan, Fujian and Shandong had reported no new case for more than 1 month; Ningxia, Jiangxi, Henan, Chongqing and Zhejiang had reported no new case for 20 days; Shaanxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Gansu, Tianjin, Jilin, Guangdong and Guangxi had reported no new case for 10 days; Hubei had reported no new case for 9 days; Shanghai and Sichuan had reported no new case for 5 days. From 10:00 am May 27 to 10:00 am May 28, China reported 4 new cases, 92 patients recovered and 4 deaths. Of the 4 cases, 1 used to be suspected but now is confirmed as a SARS patient. Of these figures: Beijing reported 3 new cases, 38 patients recovered and 3 deaths Hebei reported 1 new case (which was suspected but now confirmed as a SARS patient), and 3 patients recovered Jilin reported no new case, and 1 death Inner Mongolia reported no new case, 17 patients recovered Tianjin reported no new case, and 15 patients recovered Shanxi reported no new case, 13 patients recovered Guangdong reported no new case, 2 patients recovered Anhui, Henan, Chongqing, Shaanxi reported no new case, with each province reporting 1 patient recovered. By 10:00 am May 28, China had a total of 5,323 SARS cases (966 medical workers; Beijing, Hebei and Guangdong each reported 1 misdiagnosed case), which included 3,036 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 325 deaths. Now 1,962 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals. From 10:00 am May 27 to 10:00 am May 28, China also reported 23 new suspected cases, including 15 from Beijing, 4 from Shanxi, 2 from Guangdong, 1 each from Shanghai and Hubei. From 10:00 am May 27 to 10:00 am May 28, China also reported 128 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which 79 were from Beijing, 22 from Guangdong, 12 from Inner Mongolia, 5 from Shanxi, 3 from Hebei, 2 each from Anhui and Shaanxi, 1 each from Tianjin, Henan and Guangxi.
