2004-06-07 00:00

Q: It's reported that Chinese Foreign Ministry and the UN will jointly hold an "International Media Seminar on the Peace in the Middle East" in Beijing from June 16 to 17. Can you elaborate the relevant details?

A: At the requirement of the United Nations (UN), the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) will jointly sponsor the "International Media Seminar on the Peace in the Middle East", with the theme of "The Role of Civil Society in Promoting Peace in the Middle East" in Beijing from June 16 to 17. The seminar will be participated by about 80 delegates, including Shashi Tharoor, UN Under-Secretary-General, and other UN officials, international affairs experts and representatives from international media. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui will attend and address the opening ceremony of the seminar.

China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has always made active efforts for the Middle East peace process. China is willing to continue joint efforts with the international community to this end.
