Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on the 2007 Annual Report Released by the "US Commission on International Religious Freedom"
2007-05-11 00:00

Q: The "US Commission on International Religious Freedom" released the 2007 annual report recently, criticizing China and other countries for their religious policies. What's China's comment?

A: In its annual report, the so-called "US Commission on International Religious Freedom" made irresponsible comments again on China and other developing countries' religious conditions. The China section is filled with ignorance and prejudice, distorting and attacking China's religious and nationality policies. China expresses its strong indignation and resolute opposition.

It is witnessed by all that the Chinese Government protects its citizens' freedom of religious belief in accordance with law, under which Chinese citizens enjoy extensive human rights and religious freedom. We urge the commission to refrain from using religious issues to interfere in other nations' internal affairs.
